The University of Alabama department of history will broaden its curriculum this year by offering classes on the history of Africa taught by Dr. Josephine Nhongo Simbanegavi, UA assistant professor of history from Zimbabwe.
The University of Alabama National Alumni Association has announced the four recipients of its 2005 Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award (OCTA), the University’s highest honor for excellence in teaching.

Dr. Louis Burgio, distinguished research professor in psychology and director of the Center for Mental Health and Aging at The University of Alabama, has been selected this year’s recipient of the M. Powell Lawton award, one of the highest awards given nationally for outstanding contributions in the area of mentorship and innovations in applied gerontology.
