UA’s Steel Bridge team, consisting of eight civil engineering students, will be competing at the ASCE/AISC National Student Steel Bridge Competition May 22-23 in Las Vegas against 35 other teams from throughout the country. The top teams from each region qualify for the national competition, and UA’s Steel Bridge team placed second at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Southeast Regional Conference in March. Turner discuss a three-year pilot study that analyzes past school bus accidents, examines data from overhead cameras on school buses for information about use of seat belts, and runs a cost-benefit study on what it would cost to add safety belts to all school buses in Alabama.
