UA Honors College Students to Perform Service Projects in Marion

About 35 students and 10 student leaders from The University of Alabama’s Honors College will perform hands-on service projects in downtown Marion from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Nov. 14. Projects include painting and gardening as well as general maintenance. Once the students finish their work, the student leaders will lead discussion about the day’s events in small groups.

UA Offers ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Essay Contest to Students in High School

The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences is hosting the 13th annual “To Kill A Mockingbird” Essay Contest. Every high school in Alabama is invited to participate in the contest. Participating high schools should provide students with the essay prompt and choose a winning entry. The College will give the winner from each high school a monetary prize. Those winners should be submitted to the College by Friday, Nov. 20. They will be invited to a luncheon in February 2016. The statewide winner will be selected by the College and awarded $500. An additional $500 award will go to that student’s school.

AEJMC to Present UA C&IS with Diversity Award

The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences will receive a diversity award from Dr. Lori Bergen, president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Wednesday, Nov. 4.

UA Student Receives Killam Fellowship for Study in Canada

Fulbright Canada has awarded Jordan Sandy, a student at The University of Alabama, a Killam Fellowship to study at The University of British Columbia during the 2015-2016 academic year. Sandy, a Chicago native who is double majoring in economics and English, is a University Fellow and has held membership in the Lambda Sigma Academic Honor Society. He has interned with Creative Campus and worked with SaveFirst, a free tax preparation service for low-income families.

UA Student Receives Award for Focus on International Issues

Brandon Hooks, president of the Alabama International Relations Club at The University of Alabama, was recently presented with the UNA-USA Greater Birmingham Chapter Campus Leadership Award at the United Nations 70th anniversary banquet in Birmingham.
