The lecture is free and open to the public.

The University of Alabama and University Libraries invite the public to hear a lecture by Dr. Michael Mendle, professor of history at UA, titled “Absolutely the Most Important Thing You Know Nothing About: Shorthand and Civilization in 17th Century England.” The lecture will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in 205 Gorgas Library. New UA Website Connects Students With Off-Campus Housing

UA Hosts Lecture on Honey Bees, Food Security

The University of Alabama department of political science will host guest lecturer Dr. Tammy Horn, senior researcher in apiculture at Eastern Kentucky University, to speak on the critical importance of honey bee pollination to agriculture and food security from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in 1092 Shelby Hall.

UA Office of Veteran and Military Affairs Honors Fallen Soldiers, Wounded Warriors in Washington D.C.

The University of Alabama’s Office of Veteran Military Affairs will send representatives to the Washington, D.C., area this month to honor soldiers wounded and killed in the line of duty. David Blair, VMA director, and Dr. Lowell Davis, assistant dean of students, will join US. Rep. Terri Sewell and UA alumni for a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

UA English Department Hosts Poetry Lecture

Dr. Jahan Ramazani, Edgar F. Shannon professor of English at the University of Virginia, will give a public lecture titled “Poetry’s Dialogue with Its Others” at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in room 208 of Gordon Palmer Hall on The University of Alabama campus. The UA English department is sponsoring the event, which is free and open to students, faculty and staff. A reception will follow the lecture.
