Spring 2016 Graduates Announced at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will award some 5,350 degrees during spring commencement Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. With this graduating class, UA will have awarded more than 254,000 degrees since its founding in 1831 as the state’s first public university. Students listed as candidates to receive degrees include:

UA Professor Named Library Diversity Research Honoree

The American Library Association named The University of Alabama’s Dr. Jamie Campbell Naidoo as its 2016 Achievement in Library Diversity Research honoree.

UA’s Yates Elected President of American Association of School Librarians

The University of Alabama’s Dr. Steven Yates has been elected as the 2017-2018 American Association of School Librarians president.

Sixteen University of Alabama undergraduate researchers have received recognition through the Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award Program. The program recognizes the best research activity conducted by UA undergraduates, who are nominated by faculty and staff research directors.

UA Professor Wins National Broadcast Award

Dr. Michael Bruce, University of Alabama assistant professor of telecommunication and film, won Best of Festival in the BEA Faculty Sports Competition for his production of TideSports.com TV.

Seniors in UA’s Army ROTC to be Commissioned

The University of Alabama’s Senior Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, Crimson Tide Battalion, will hold a commissioning ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Ferguson Center Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

UA’s Paul Jones Gallery of Art Showcases Miniature Art

Forget murals and mammoth outdoor sculptures. The new exhibit at The University of Alabama’s Paul R. Jones Gallery in downtown Tuscaloosa is featuring art at the other end of the spectrum—not big paintings, but miniatures—through July 22.

UA’s Rural Medical Scholars Program Celebrates 20th Class

The Rural Medical Scholars Program at the College of Community Health Sciences will honor the graduates of its 20th class, as well as alumni of the now two-decade-old program, on Sunday, May 1, at Hotel Capstone on The University of Alabama campus. A reception for program alumni will be at 3 p.m. and will be followed by the 20th Annual Rural Scholars Convocation, where the current classes of the Rural Medical Scholars and Rural Community Health Scholars will be recognized.
