More than 1,400 law professors from 48 states have signed a letter urging the Senate to reject the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions, a Republican from Alabama, for U.S. attorney general. The only signature from a current faculty member at the University of Alabama School of Law, where Sessions earned his degree, is mine. (John P. Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox calls it “Saban-omics.” So while he’s obviously pulling for an Alabama win over Clemson in Monday night’s College Football Playoff championship game, there’s a lot more at stake than collecting another trophy and adding to the Crimson Tide’s title count. “It matters greatly,” Maddox said Monday morning.
