OPINION: Entrepreneurship program will help our young people
Selma Times-Journal – July 7
The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce is working with the University of Alabama to host a youth entrepreneurship program beginning Tuesday. This program, which already operates in Tuscaloosa, is a much needed opportunity to engage young people in the area and promote the skills and mindset of business owners. Dallas County has a generational unemployment problem, and it will not be solved until we start getting creative and finding ways to encourage our youth to enter the business world with high hopes and aspirations. We applaud the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce for bringing this program to Selma. Any investment made in the youth of Dallas County is a worthwhile investment, and we hope other organizations find ways to engage our youth.

She was crowned Miss Alabama on her third trip to the state pageant and credits her years of involvement with the Miss America Organization in Virginia and Alabama for her ability to graduate debt-free from the University of Alabama. She has obtained $86,000 in scholarship money so far. “It’s done wonders for me and my family,” Caitlin said. Caitlin has a degree in dance with a minor in computing applications and technology. Her dual goal is to move to New York City and audition for Broadway roles, and also to obtain a master’s degree in non-profit management.
