Bryant-Denny expansion makes it fifth-largest stadium
Tuscaloosa News – Aug. 5
Newly expanded Bryant-Denny Stadium will open this fall as the fifth-largest football stadium in the country, with a capacity of 101,821 seats. The University of Alabama’s $65 million expansion added 9,683 seats, including 36 luxury boxes, in the south end zone… “All of the improvements and the expansion of the new south end zone complex will be complete well in advance of the season opener, and we are proud to have a stadium of the size that reflects the passion, commitment and enthusiasm of our incredible fans,” said UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore in a statement. UA head coach Nick Saban is pleased with the upgrade. “I think the stadium looks fabulous,” he said Wednesday at his preseason news conference. “I think we had one of the best venues in college football before we made the addition of the end zone. Now we’re over 101,000 people, and I think now that we may be among the top two or three venues in terms of a place to play college football of anywhere in the country. I think it’s a beautiful stadium, I think it’s a great place to watch a game… UA has sold out the stadium’s available tickets in season ticket packages, although some single-game tickets may become available if schools visiting Bryant-Denny Stadium do not sell out their allotments. Alabama began shipping season ticket packages this week. Alabama’s expansion increased student seating by 2,000, up to 17,000. Of those, 14,400 are available for students to order through the school’s online ticketing system. The other seats are set aside for the Million Dollar Band, for student-athletes and others…
