Hank Williams Jr. to be at UA homecoming

Country music performer Hank Williams Jr. will be the featured act for the University of Alabama’s homecoming, with a concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 in Coleman Coliseum, the night before the Crimson Tide’s football game against Arkansas State…Tickets for UA students are $10 and go on sale today. Tickets for the public are $30 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

The University of Alabama will host the Alabama I-Day 2008 Conference for insurance professionals on Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. in Alston Hall… — Former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner F.W. de Klerk will present the 2008 Frank A. Nix Lecture, a program of the University of Alabama’s Blackburn Institute, on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at Sellers Auditorium in the Bryant Conference Center… — Ken Fridley, professor and department head of civil, construction and environmental engineering at the University of Alabama, has been named a fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers. — Richard Smith, manager of the glass-blowing facility at the University of Alabama, has received the 2008 J. Allen Alexander Award from the American Scientific Glassblowers Society… — The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations at the University of Alabama has awarded $8,700 in grants for research projects that will enhance understanding of factors that contribute to effective and ethical leadership in public relations. UA doctoral student Juan Meng received a $6,859 grant for her study, “Measurement of Excellent Leadership in Public Relations and Its Dimensions: A Cross-Cultural Integrating Approach.” UA doctoral student Elina Erzikova and Bruce Berger, professor and chairman of the department of advertising and public relations at UA, were awarded a $1,875 grant for their study, “Leadership Education in Public Relations Curriculum: Reality, Opportunities and Benefits. — The University of Alabama College of Engineering’s degree programs have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc., an accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. In addition, UA’s computer science program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. — Students at the University of Alabama selected as 2008-09 Ambassadors of the College of Engineering are Martha Anne Addison; Lauren Grace Bialoskurski; Morgan Rachel Blouin, secretary and webmaster; Robyn Denise Carter; Brandi Alison Freeman; Amy Elisabeth Frees; Armando Y.
